community gardens

Pacific County Health Department supports the work of two separate community coalitions who advocate gardening in Pacific County by building and promoting community gardens.

In south Pacific County, the group is called Peninsula Farm to School. They have developed several community gardens thus far.   These gardens, which are open to community members for use, are located throughout the Peninsula at Green Angel Farm in Long Beach, behind Jimella’s Café in Klipsan, and at 10th and Washington in Long Beach. In addition, school based gardens have been set up at Long Beach Head Start, Long Beach ECEAP, and Naselle school.  The South County community garden efforts have been spearheaded by Bryan and Robyn West.

In North County, the group “Growing Together” has built a community garden attached to the Legacy Community Outreach (Food Bank) in South Bend. North county efforts have been led by Laurie Johnson and Ravenal Bisbee.  Additional community volunteers have provided countless hours of volunteer time in the building and support of these gardens.

Both the north and south county groups are planning on utilizing portions of the gardens for charitable purposes such as donating produce to the food banks in Ocean Park and South Bend. To get involved in either gardening group or for more information, please contact Melissa Sexton at 360-875-9343.
